PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a long-life image display device, and its manufacturing method, capable of absorbing exhaust gas with a few getter volume for a long period of time, and with reduction of manufacturing cost aimed at. SOLUTION: The image display device is provided with an envelope 10 equipped with a first substrate 11 and a second substrate 12 with their peripheral parts jointed to each other, a display face 16 arranged on the first substrate, a getter box 50 specifying a getter room 51 jointed to a peripheral part of the envelope and communicated with the inside of the envelope, getters 56 fitted in the getter room, and a heating mechanism provided in the vicinity of the getter room for heating and activating the getters.
