PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a work retainer which can be carried with an electric wire retained and can prevent deformation and scratches of the electric wire, and can hold the electric wire firmly. SOLUTION: The retaining unit 301a to hold an electric wire by pinching has a pinching plate 312 of thin plate shape having a pair of pinching members 315 which are opposed to each other with a spacing narrower than the diameter of the electric wire and press the electric wire by pinching it, and a support member 316 which supports the respective pinching members 315 mutually in separating direction capable of elastic deformation, and the pinching plates 312 are laminated a plurality of sheets. Furthermore, at the lower part of the respective pinching member 315, a swollen part 319 of nearly semi-circular shape swollen mutually in opposite direction is formed, and an opening and closing pin 320 which changes the spacing of the pair of pinching members 315 is inserted between the swollen parts 319.
