PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image signal processing apparatus which appropriately detects a noise component in an input image signal and eliminates the noise component from the image signal. SOLUTION: An image signal processing apparatus 10 includes a noise detection part 30, a motion detection part 60, a false contour reduction part 90 and an operation part 120. The noise detection part 30 detects a temporary noise component based on a low frequency component in the image signal of a current frame or a preceding frame. The motion detection part 60 detects the motion of an image from the image signal of the preceding frame and the frame before the preceding frame. The false contour reduction part 90 predicts the generation of a false contour based on a hue component or a high frequency component of the image signal. A level of the temporary noise component is adjusted by the operation part 120 based on the result detected or predicted in the motion detection part 60 and the false contour reduction part 90.
