<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid-crystalline medium having excellent negative dielectric anisotropy which can be used for an electrooptical display with active matrix drive, that is, for IPS (in-plane switching) and FFS (fringe field switching). <P>SOLUTION: The liquid-crystalline medium based on a mixture of polar compounds, comprises at least one compound of formula I and the liquid-crystalline medium is used for the active-matrix display based on the ECB, FFS, PALC or IPS effect, in the formula, R<SP>11</SP>and R<SP>12</SP>denote an alkyl group and the like, rings L<SP>1</SP>and L<SP>2</SP>denote a phenylene ring or a cyclohexylene ring, ring N denotes a halogen-substituted naphthalene ring and the like, and a and b denote 0 or 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
