PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for catalytic cracking hydrocarbon oil, which exhibits high cracking activity when used for catalytic cracking hydrocarbon oil and by the usage of which the amounts of dry gas, LPG and coke being cracked products to be produced are reduced and the selectivity of a gasoline fraction is improved to produce FCC gasoline efficiently in high yield and to provide a method for catalytic cracking hydrocarbon oil by using the catalyst for catalytic cracking hydrocarbon oil. SOLUTION: The catalyst for catalytic cracking hydrocarbon oil contains 10-75 mass% clay mineral, the crystal grain of which has a plate-shaped crystal structure and which has such an aspect that the average number of layered crystal grains exceeds 10 when an image is measured by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), 20-50 mass% crystalline aluminosilicate and 5-40 mass% a silica binder being a binding agent.
