<p>An electronic device disposal assisting apparatus communicates with a client apparatus of a disposal requesting party to assist a disposing party, who has received the request of disposing electronic devices from the disposal requesting party, in disposing the electronic devices. The electronic device disposal assisting apparatus comprises a means that stores information for use in determining reusable ones of the electronic devices for which the disposing party has received the disposal request from the disposal requesting party, information for use in determining storage units included in the electronic devices, and status information indicating the statuses of the storage units by using at least a first state representative of a state that data has not been erased from a storage unit after accepting of the storage unit; a second state representative of a state that the operation has not been verified after erasing of the storage unit data; and a third state representative of a state that the operation has been verified after the erasing of the storage unit data. The electronic device disposal assisting apparatus further comprises a means that transmits the status information and others to the client apparatus of the disposal requesting party in response to a transmission request from the client apparatus. Thus, when disposing electronic devices after erasing the data stored therein, the disposing party is allowed to enhance the reliability of the disposal requesting party on the data erasing performed by the disposing party without the help of any trusted third party.</p> |
