PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a display device provided with an alignment layer which does not cause wet spreading in the periphery of the alignment layer. SOLUTION: The display device has as a peripheral device substrates disposed opposite to each other via a liquid crystal and is provided with the alignment layer formed in contact with the liquid crystal on the liquid crystal side surface of at least the one substrate of each of the substrates. The alignment layer has fine parts where no film is formed on the periphery thereof and the fine part is constituted of a pattern nearly uniformly formed along the peripheral part thereof.
