<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb structure the isostatic strength of which can be improved without increasing the mass of the honeycomb structure. <P>SOLUTION: A first cell 40 having a hexagonal cross section is arranged inside a columnar inner peripheral wall 20 of a honeycomb base material 1 for cleaning exhaust gas and a second cell 50 having a circular cross section is arranged between the inner peripheral wall 20 and an outer peripheral wall 10. As a result, a first partition wall 41 constituting the first cell 40 to be arranged inside the inner peripheral wall 20 of the honeycomb base material 1 for cleaning exhaust gas can be kept thin and the mass of the honeycomb base material 1 for cleaning exhaust gas can be prevented for being increased. Since the second cell 50 comprising a thick second partition wall 51 is arranged between the inner peripheral wall 20 and the outer peripheral wall 10, the mechanical strength of the outside diameter side of the honeycomb base material 1 for cleaning exhaust gas can be increased. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
