PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cable connection judging method and device, wherein a sensor switch is not used and only one test terminal is required, and it does not depend on the power source state of an opposite apparatus. SOLUTION: In the method for allowing an apparatus 5 to judge the cable connection whether a cable 2 is connected to the receptacle 4 of the apparatus 5 or not, it is judged that it is in connection state when a feature amount, reflecting the floating electrostatic capacity of the cable 2, satisfies prescribed reference when one of the terminals of the receptacle 4 is defined as the test terminal 6 to which a test signal is applied so as to extract the feature amount from a response signal generated in the test terminal 6.
