SURGICAL MARKER ELEMENT, SURGICAL REFERENCING UNIT, AND SURGICAL NAVIGATION SYSTEM

Disclosed is a surgical marker element for a referencing unit of a navigation system, comprising a base which has an external surface that reflects electromagnetic radiation or ultrasound as well as a device for connecting the marker element to the referencing unit. In order to improve said surgical marker element in such a way as to ensure that the position of each marker element can be determined with high accuracy, the connecting device is disposed and designed such that the shape thereof is irreversibly modified or the connecting device is destroyed as a result of changing environmental conditions. Also disclosed are an improved surgical referencing unit and an improved surgical navigation system.
