The invention relates to a method for the cosmetic treatment of keratinic material, in particular hair, that comprises applying a cosmetic composition containing a polymer having a polymeric skeleton that comprises amino acid monomer units with a cationic function, and including hydrophilic grafts covalently bonded to said skeleton, on the entire skeleton or a portion thereof. The invention also relates to a cosmetic composition containing said polymer and a cosmetically acceptable medium.
