The present invention relates to methods for the determination and the classification of a rheumatic condition in at least one synovial sample of a subject afflicted with said rheumatic condition, comprising the steps of determining in said synovial sample the level of expression of at least 20 genes or fragments thereof as defined in the claims and identifying whether the level of expression of said at least 20 genes in said sample correlateswith the presence of a rheumatic condition. The present invention also relates to kits for the determination and the classification of rheumatic condition comprising a low density microarray comprising probes suitable for hybridizing with at least 20 genes or fragments thereof as defined in the claims.
