PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera that can be made compact or thin. SOLUTION: The camera 1 comprises: an objective lens 2 that has a first optical axis A; a bending optical section 3 by which the center of a photographing luminous flux passing through the objective lens 2 is bent along a second optical axis B almost perpendicular to the first optical axis A; a shift driving section 6 having projection parts 27 and 28 projecting beyond a lens 19 or imaging device 8 in the subject direction, the projection parts 27 and 28 being configured such that the lens 19 or imaging device 8 disposed on a second optical axis B is moved in a direction perpendicular to the second optical axis B; and a cover member 11 that covers the subject from the projection parts 27 and 28; and a protection barrier section 9 that is movable between a first position P in which the objective lens 2 is covered and a second position Q to which the objective lens 2 retracts from the first position, and that is configured so that as the projection parts 27 and 28 project in the subject direction, at least a part of the protection barrier section 9 is disposed in a space 44a generated on the lens 19 side rather than the projection parts 27 and 28, which space 44a is inside the cover member 11 and on the subject side rather than the lens 19 or imaging device 8.
