The invention regards a method for measuring the mains frequency by the digital control system of an electrical appliance, in particular an electrical hoµsehold appliance. The digital control system is prearranged for performing rigorous measurements of the value of the mains frequency and of its variations, without any need to provide high-precision, and hence costly, measuring means. This is obtained through an operation of calibration of the means for measurement of the mains frequency, associated to the digital control system of the electrical appliance or household appliance, performed prior to marketing of the product.
