A shield 402 is removably mounted on a first end 422 of a reversible cutting tool 400 in order to cover and protect from debris a retainer 414 having a protrusion 418 which may be consequently fitted into a sleeve 404 in a holder block when the first end is worn. The cutting tool has a shoulder 310 at an interface between first and second cutting ends, each with a cutting tip 424 at its distal end, and a recess in the body portion with the retainer 414 positioned in the recess. Cutting ends can be mirror images of each other, or may be non-mirror imaged, for example with different gage lengths, to accommodate different operating conditions. With one of the cutting ends mounted in a holder 404, the shield 402 protects the retainer and recess features on the operating cutting end. |
