An interconnecting connection system for enabling communication between a plurality of system components is disclosed. The system comprises at least one connector 10 and one cable 12. In a first aspect a plurality of connectors 10 have two first connection sockets 15, 20. Each connector 10 is joined by cable 12 to form a backbone. At least one connector 10 has a second connection socket 21 for connection to a drop cable 16. The connector 10 may be in form of a T-connector or may have two second connectors 21 and be in the form of an X-shape. Various other shapes are possible and some connectors may have no branch connectors 21 and function as a simple splice allowing the length of the backbone cable to be extended. Each socket on the connector may be provided with a rotational locking collar with visual indication of locking and/or un-locking provided by raised arrows. The first sockets 15, 20 and first cables 12 may be colour coded a first colour and the second sockets 21 and second cables 16 may be a second colour. Connection between connection socket and cable may be via pins and holes. All the pins may be in the connector 10 and all the cooperating holes may be in the cable end connectors 14,16 and sockets 20 and 15 are preferably identical thus each cable 12 may be connected to either side of the connector 10. Ideally the arrangement of pins is different between first and second sockets 15, 21 and no pin of the first socket overlaps a pin of the second socket which prevents incompatible cables 12 and 16 from being forcibly incorrectly connected. Unused sockets such as an end 20 may be sealed by a terminating plug 19. Second, third and fourth aspects relate to a locking collar, a plurality of pins and holes in the connectors and cables, and colour coding respectively. |
