PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device composed by reducing the capacity of a capacitor C4 while keeping the removal performance of a ripple current flowing through a discharge lamp LA. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device is equipped with: a series circuit of first and second switching elements connected in parallel with a D.C. power source; a series circuit of first and second capacitors connected in parallel with the D.C. power source; a series circuit of a first inductor and the discharge lamp connected between the connection point of the first and second switching elements and the connection point of the first and second capacitors; a third capacitor connected in parallel with the discharge lamp; a series circuit of third and fourth switching elements connected in parallel with the series circuit of the first and second switching elements; and a second inductor connected between the connection point of the third and fourth switching elements and the connection point of the first inductor and the discharge lamp.
