<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens possessing a vibration-proof function and having a high-performance and simple mechanism. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The zoom lens is equipped with a 1st lens group G1 having positive refractive power, a 2nd lens group G2 having negative refractive power, a 3rd lens group G3 having negative refractive power, a 4th lens group G4 having positive refractive power, and a 5th lens group G5 having positive refractive power in order from an object side. In the case of varying power from a wide angle end to a telephoto end, the 1st and the 5th lens groups G1 and G5 are fixed with respect to an image surface, space between the 1st and the 2nd lens groups G1 and G2 is changed, space between the 2nd and the 3rd lens groups G2 and G3 is changed, space between the 3rd and the 4th lens groups G3 and G4 is decreased, and space between the 4th and the 5th lens groups G4 and G5 is changed.
