PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly and automatically manufacture a slice, having a desired thickness without being affected by temperature change or cutting blade. SOLUTION: The automatic slice manufacturing apparatus 3 is equipped with a fixing stand 10 which places and fixes an embedding block B and is movable in a Z-direction; a cutting means 12 having a cutting blade 11 and relatively moving the cutting blade and the fixing stand in an X-direction to cut the slice from the embedding block; a height-measuring means 13 for measuring the distance up to the upper surface of the embedding block at least before and after cutting and calculating the height of the embedding block, with respect to a reference height from the measured distance and a control part 14 for determining the moving quantity of the fixing stand, on the basis of the measured result due to the height measuring means and controlling the operation of the fixing stand. The control part compares the difference quantity for the heights of the embedding block, measured before and after cutting by the height-measuring means with the desired thickness quantity of the slice, each time the slice is manufactured and determines the moving quantity of the fixing stand to the sum of correction quantity and the thickness quantity for the next time.
