A parking brake adjusting device

The present invention provides a parking brake adjusting device for adjusting the tension cable (not shown) of a handbrake 115 in a vehicle. The adjusting device has an inner housing 110 for receiving a handle 120 of the parking brake 115, a deformable member (eg. a spring) 215 attached to the housing, a force probe 150 having a first end connected to the deformable member 215 and a second end in contact with a component of the vehicle and a sensor 225 for generating a control signal when a predefined force value is applied to the deformable member 215 by adjusting the tension of the tension cable through an adjustment tool (not shown). The control signal is used to disable the adjustment tool. A method for adjusting the parking brake is also disclosed.
