A method and a system for managing metadata of a numerical stock map are provided to smoothly input the metadata whether or not production of the numerical stock map is completed by inputting the metadata when the metadata needs to be inputted though the numerical stock map is being produced. A method for managing metadata of a numerical stock map includes the following several steps. A metadata management system displays a metadata management screen when the numerical stock map is selected(S201,S203). If there does not exist the metadata including data element values on the selected numerical stock map, and attached files which are a quality management report and an attribute information explanation document, the metadata management system enables a user to input the metadata(S205,S207). If there exists the metadata, the metadata management system edits the metadata to correspond to inputted signals(S223-S227). The system manages update information among the data element values including update date, an update time, an update cause, an update process and an update person(S231). The system links the inputted and edited metadata with the selected numerical stock map, and stores the linked data(S221).
