<p>A light-weight composite sheet (1'), such as a honeycomb core between solid outer layers, is fitted with a solid outer edge (10) by applying, e.g. by means of an extruder (20), a free-flowing material, that partially penetrates the hollow spaces of the core. The material is then smoothed (30), optionally assisted by applying a low pressure, and cooled to harden it. An independent claim is also included for the corresponding process equipment, comprising an extruder (20), vacuum smoothing (30) and cooling, with relative motion (38) to the sheet edge, either by translation or rotation. A similar second stage can follow in sequence in order to apply a decorative material.</p> |
