A PTT(Push To Talk) communication method of a portable terminal is provided to be capable of sending an effect sound together with a function of occupying or returning the floor through a key mapped with the effect sound, thereby increasing usage time of the portable terminal. A controller enters a PTT communication mode(S401), and confirms floor mode setup(S403). If a floor mode is a maintenance mode, the controller performs PTT communication in accordance with the maintenance mode(S405,S407). If the controller demands the floor(S411), a PTT server transmits an effect sound mapped with key combination or a pressed key(S413,S415). The controller demands releasing of the floor to the PTT server(S423). The PTT server withdraws the floor.
