An image display system and a method for displaying images of the same are provided to prevent image tearing effect by stopping write operation of the image display system. An image display system includes a frame buffer(141) having plural lines, a memory controller(150), an image data supply unit(110), a display controller(120), a tearing prevention bus arbiter(130), and a display device(160). The memory controller performs write and read operations on the frame buffer. The image data supply unit provides image data to the memory controller and generates write address. The display controller generates read address and receives image data of the frame buffer which is read by the memory controller. The tearing prevention bus arbiter stores a burst length, receives the write and read addresses, selectively outputs the received write and read addresses. The display device displays the image data under control of the display controller. The read address includes start address for the read operation. The write address includes a start address for the write operation. The tearing prevention bus arbiter outputs the read address to the memory controller and stops output of the write address when the write address is identical to the read addresses or a difference between the start address for the read operation and the start address for the write operation is below the burst length.
