A controller of a display device having reduced line memories and a method for controlling the same are provided to reduce power consumption by decreasing the number of the line memories. A controller of a display device includes plural line memories(LM_1-LM_5), a write controller(350), and a read controller(360). The line memories store R,G,B data of respective lines. The write controller writes R,G,B data of an n-th line to first through third line memories of the line memories. The read controller reads the stored R,G,B data. The read controller terminates read of data stored in the first line memory before starting the writing of R,G,B data in an (n+1)-th line. The write controller writes the R,G,B data in an (n+1)-th line to the first, fourth, and fifth line memories of the line memories.
