PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact engine for a portable work machine capable of suppressing electromagnetic waves generated in an ignition coil unit and a high pressure cord from being radiated to the outside of an engine while having an inexpensive and a simple structure. SOLUTION: The compact engine E for driving a portable work machine 1 includes at least a cylinder 10 of the engine E, an ignition coil unit 28, and a shroud 30 for covering the high voltage cord 29 for connecting the ignition coil unit 28 to an ignition plug 20.
