A method of controlling an image forming system to save power is provided to save power of a communication unit which performs communication with a host computer connected to a network to reduce power consumption. An image forming apparatus performs a power saving mode when a printing instruction signal is not inputted thereto for a predetermined period of time(S250). When the printing instruction signal is inputted, the power saving mode is converted to a normal mode. A printer driver controls the printing instruction signal to be repeatedly output until the image forming apparatus is converted to the normal mode(S260).
