The device (1) has a fixation unit i.e. elastic detent unit, co-operating with a metallic peripheral wall (4) of a cooking container (2). A sensor (5) is positioned on the wall of the container for detecting level of liquid by direct contact, where the liquid is contained inside the container. A data transmission unit transmits data measured by the sensor to a control unit of a domestic cooktop for adapting power delivered by a boiling plate on which the cooking container is placed. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring overflow prevention of a liquid from a cooktop.
