RECEIVER AND METHOD FOR IMPLEMENTING TIMING SYNCHRONIZATION IN OFDM SCHEME

A receiver and a method for performing a timing synchronization in an OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) scheme are provided to determine a starting point of a final OFDM symbol by repeatedly resetting a starting point of an initial OFDM symbol based on a calculated reference value. A receiver for performing a timing synchronization in an OFDM scheme includes an autocorrelation processing unit(110), a reference value calculating unit(120), a differential value calculation unit(130), a comparison unit(140), and a determination unit(150). The autocorrelation processing unit calculates and accumulates an autocorrelation value for samples of an OFDM symbol before an initial setting starting point. The reference value calculating unit calculates a reference value of each sample index in at least one sample interval based on the accumulated autocorrelation value. The reference value is that an imaginary part of the accumulated autocorrelation value is divided by a real part of the same. A final starting point is determined by repeatedly resetting an initial starting point. The differential value calculation unit calculates and accumulates difference values between two neighboring reference values using the reference values. The comparison unit compares a threshold value with the accumulated difference values. The determination unit determines the final starting point by resetting the initial starting point based on the comparison result.
