Infectious bursal disease virus antigenic isolates and vaccines

Provided is a vaccine composition comprising an lnfectious Bursal Disease Virus (IBDV) VP-2 antigen and a pharmacologically acceptable carrier, wherein said IBDV VP-2 antigen comprises a specified classic consensus sequence with two or more amino acid substitutions; wherein a first amino acid substitution of G to D at amino acid position 318 is the only amino acid substitution within the major hydrophilic peak B of IBDV VP-2; and wherein a second amino acid substitution is selected from the group consisting of 222-T, 249-K, 254-S, 279-N and 286-1. Further provided are compositions comprising at least one additional poultry antigen, which can be a reovirus, and a vaccine composition comprising an antigenic isolate ATCC Accession # PTA-5848. Also provided are methods of inducing protection against IBDV using the said compositions.
