PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an image quality degradation such as a back smudge to recording paper by eliminating an unnecessary exposure as much as possible when the first synchronizing signal is detected and by minimizing toner adhesion to an electrostatic latent image even if the latent image is formed by unnecessary exposure lines. SOLUTION: Optical power of light beams outputted from a light emitting source after a deflecting means stops before the first synchronizing signal/DETP is detected is gradually increased from a lower level than optical power necessary for a synchronous detection means to generate the synchronizing signal/DETP. Accordingly, the optical power reaches power exceeding the necessary optical power. Since the first synchronizing signal/DETP is detected at a time point when the light beam scans the synchronous detection means, the unnecessary exposure to a photosensitive body is eliminated as much as possible when the first synchronizing signal/DETP is detected. Since the optical power is low even if the electrostatic latent image is formed by unnecessary exposure lines, the toner adhesion to the latent image is made minimum, and the image quality degradation such as the back smudge to recording papers can be prevented.
