A method for executing contents in a portable terminal device is provided to execute one contents to be executed at the booting time of the portable terminal device, thereby reducing the booting time of the portable terminal device. When an electric power is applied to a portable terminal device, a memory and a hardware unit are initiated and then an OS(Operating System) is driven according to a booting sequence(S100,S102). If the driving of the OS is completed, an AMS(Application Management System) is executed(S104). A start contents list is read from the memory to check whether there are contents to be executed at the booting time of the portable terminal device. If the start contents list is read from the memory, the first contents item is read from the start contents list(S108). Contents identifier information stored in a data area of the read contents item is extracted. Contents corresponding to the contents identifier information are executed. If the execution of the corresponding contents is completed, an idle screen is displayed(S112).
