A sliding type portable terminal device is provided to prevent the movement of housings in an opened or closed state by using fixing protrusions and fixing grooves, thereby improving the reliability and durability of the terminal device. A guide member(201) is mounted on a first housing(101). At least one fixing protrusion(213) is formed on one surface of the guide member. A guide groove is formed in a rear cover(102b) of a second housing and extended in a longitudinal direction of the second housing. Fixing grooves(223) are formed at both end portions of the guide groove. The guide member is coupled with the rear cover such that the guide member wraps both side ends of the rear cover, thereby guiding the sliding movement of the second housing. The fixing protrusion is engaged with one of the fixing grooves while the fixing protrusion is moved along the guide groove, thereby fixing the second housing in a stationary state. Key pads(111) are formed on one surface of the first housing. The key pads are opened or closed by sliding movement of the second housing. The fixing protrusion is engaged with one of the fixing grooves in an opened or closed state of the key pads.
