A method and an apparatus for reproducing moving picture data including sub-screen picture data are provided to display a sub-screen image selectively according to user's choice to allow the user to select whether to watch the sub-screen image flexibly. A predetermined message which represents that moving picture data includes sub-screen picture data is output(520). A user selects whether the sub-screen picture data is displayed. The sub-screen picture data is selectively displayed according to user's choice. The message is output before the sub-screen picture data is displayed through a screen on which the moving picture data is displayed.
