PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for patterning a metal foil with high precision without requiring etching. SOLUTION: In the patterning method of a metal foil for obtaining a metal foil 13 of a predetermined pattern by performing a process including (1) a step of exposing an adhesive sheet 1 with a metal foil formed by laminating a base 11, an adhesive layer 12 exhibiting adhesion variation through exposure, and a metal foil 13 sequentially from the base 11 side by using a mask 2 consisting of a shading pattern 21 and a light-permeable pattern 22 thus exposing the adhesive layer 12 partially, and (2) a step of cutting the adhesive sheet 1 with a metal foil from the metal foil 13 side not to cut the base 11 in correspondence with the shading pattern 21 of the mask 2, and then stripping the metal foil 13 corresponding to an exposed part or a non-exposed part from the adhesive layer 12, a mask 2 having the shading pattern 21 with a thickness d of 0.15 mm or more is employed for the above mask 2.
