COMPACT WAVEGUIDE AND PLASMA LIGHTING SYSTEM HAVING THE SAME

A compact waveguide and an electrodeless lighting unit having the same are provided to reduce a size of the waveguide without decrease of a resonance frequency by inserting a dielectric into the waveguide without a size change of a slot. A compact waveguide(400) is formed by winding a hollow hexahedron in the shape of a circular arc, and both ends thereof are spaced apart from each other. The compact waveguide has a slot(410) in a part formed by winding the hollow hexahedron. The slot has the same curvature as inner and outer surfaces of the waveguide with respect to a center of the circular arc. A distance between the center of the circular arc and the inside of the waveguide is 2.5 to 5.5mm. The both ends of the waveguide are formed in a straight shape, and an angle between both ends of the waveguide is 175 to 245 degrees. A distance between the center of the circular arc and the inside of the slot is 4.5 to 20.5mm.
