The device has a sensor (8) for detecting the vibration of a roller (3), and automatic controller (9) process the vibration data detected by a sensor and delivers the control signal based on the vibration data. An actuator (10) is impinged depending on the control signal of a roller with a force opposing the vibration. The actuator is so arranged that the corresponding roller influences the peripheral surface. An independent claim is also included for a method for active vibration damping of two rotating rollers moving in opposite directions.
