<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lightweight culture medium of low water content and reduced water repellency by including coconut shell flour having an intrinsic density in a specific range. SOLUTION: This lightweight culture medium contains coconut shell flour whose intrinsic density d1 is 1.5 g/cm<3> <=d1<=3.0 g/cm<3> , determined by a soil three-phase meter. Preferably, the medium has an overall intrinsic density d2 of 1.5 g/cm<3> <=d2<=3.5 g/cm<3> determined by the same meter, is produced by a method which can apply a shear and/or compressive stresses to the medium, and contains a fertilizer and/or carbide. Also preferably the coconut shell flour is coir dust.</p> |
