PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hermetic lash adjuster capable of securing a function under a sever condition and securing lift loss necessary under a low temperature condition such as an engine cold start, and simultaneously inhibiting damage of working fluid and wear of a sliding part due to heat generation of a sliding part. SOLUTION: The hermetic lash adjuster 100 includes as a hydraulic oil methylphenyl silicone fluid having predetermined kinematic viscosity characteristics which is functionally required. The methylphenyl silicone fluid has kinematic viscosity not less than 20 cst at 130°C and not greater than 2,000 cst at -35°C as the predetermined kinematic viscosity characteristics. In the kinematic viscosity characteristics, kinematic viscosity gets to 224 cst at 25°C and phenyl content of the methylphenyl silicone fluid is set in a range of from 4 mol% to 12 mol%.
