PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the stop control of a carriage loaded with a mobile hopper and an oven lid in a COQ (COKE DRY QUENCHER) apparatus, capable of correctly positioning them even under strong wind. SOLUTION: The control method comprises such a process that, based on stop switches 1 and 4 commanding stopping the travel of the carriage 9, speed reduction switches 2 and 5 commanding the speed reduction of the carriage, speed reduction switches 3 and 6 for strong wind commanding the speed reduction of the carriage under strong wind, and a wind velocity detected by a wind velocity detector, the mobile hopper 7 and the oven lid 8 are stopped above a prechamber 12 when red hot coke is to be loaded into the prechamber and when the loading of red hot coke is completed, respectively. In this method, when a wind velocity detected by the wind velocity detector is not higher than a reference level, the carriage is put to speed reduction based on a speed reduction command from the relevant speed reduction switches, and simultaneously, the carriage is put to travel stop based on a command from the stop switches; on the other hand, when being higher than the reference level, the carriage is put to speed reduction based on a speed reduction command from the speed reduction switches for strong wind, and simultaneously, the carriage is put to travel stop based on a command from the stop switches.
