PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator which uses electromagnets for supplying stable and large driving force by a simple structure. SOLUTION: In the actuator equipped with an axial member, at least two independent sliding members which slide with respect to the axial member, a plurality of electromagnets disposed in series with respect to the sliding direction on the sliding members, and a current supplying part for supplying a current to the electromagnets, the polarity of the plurality of electromagnets is determined in a manner to generate repulsive force or attractive force in the direction to slide the sliding members for at least one of the directions of contracting and of extending the entire length of the actuator.
