A method and an apparatus for managing digital copyrights of an SRM(Secure Removable Media) are provided to enable an RI(Right Issuer) to issue the rights object of the SRM by generating a right issue request message of the SRM through a link between the SRM and a terminal having the SRM. A method for managing digital copyrights of an SRM includes the steps of: at a device, acquiring an identifier of the SRM, and transmitting a right request message having the identifier to an RI so that the device can request the rights object of the SRM to the RI(S15); at the device, receiving the rights object of the SRM which is encoded by a key of the SRM from the RI(S18); at the device, transmitting the rights object of the received SRM to the SRM so that the rights object of the SRM can be stored in the SRM in response to the received SRM(S26). The device acquires the identifier of the SRM through mutual authentication.
