PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waste water treatment method and system where phosphorous and generated sludge in waste water treatment are effectively treated, and the practical collection and recovery of phosphorous can be performed. SOLUTION: In the waste water treatment method where treatment for phosphorous-containing organic waste water is performed, the waste water 16 is subjected to biological treatment 3, the phosphorous in the waste water is taken into activated sludge 15, the activated sludge 15 in which the phosphorous is taken is subjected to concentration 8, the phosphorous is released from the concentrated sludge into water 9, the phosphorous released into the water is subjected to collection 11 using a phosphorous collecting material comprising a material obtained by compounding one or more kinds selected from a zirconium compound and a titanium compound and a water soluble polymer compound onto the surface of a base material, and insolubilizing the same. As the water soluble polymer compound, polyvinyl alcohol is preferable, and, the phosphorous collecting material can be used in a fiber shape, a film shape, a net shape or the like, the release of the phosphorous from the concentrated sludge can be performed by anaerobic treatment and/or oxidation treatment, and further, the phosphorous collecting material can be regenerated by alkali cleaning.
