PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of a conventional technology that a solid matter deposits in the vicinity of the end part of a module. SOLUTION: In a membrane filtration module cleaning method, a membrane filtration module is equipped with at least one membrane set in a feed liquid receiving tank, and the membrane has a permeable wall. This method comprises carrying out filtration operation by supplying a feed liquid to a first side of the permeable wall and drawing out a filtrate from a second side of the permeable wall, stopping the filtration operation, carrying out cleaning operation of the permeable wall for moving pollutants from the permeable wall into a liquid surrounding the membrane on the first side of the permeable wall, forming a gas accommodation region on the first side of the permeable wall, sealing the feed liquid receiving tank, pressurizing gas in the gas accommodation region, and opening the feed liquid receiving tank to atmosphere, thereby expanding the gas accommodation region for removing the liquid containing the moved pollutants and making a sweep of the feed liquid receiving tank.
