A beverage spout (2) and threaded cap (3) are joined by a safety tether (4) that further acts as a guarantee strip (4) to establish the integrity of the contents prior to opening. The safety tether (4) as it is wrapped around the pour spout (2) is connected by a series of break-away tabs (35,36,37) the cooperate to form the guarantee strip (4), whereupon when the cap (3) is unscrewed off the tabs (35,36,37) are ruptured to unfurl the safety tether (4). The break-away tabs (35,36,37) can be selected to promote ordered extension of the safety tether (4) as the cap (3) is removed from the spout (2).
