The method involves receiving an electronic document (PS) of a mail piece (DW) in a central location (CO). A determination is made whether an established delivery address (AD) is within a delivery area. A delivery attribute associated with the delivery address is added to the electronic document. The electronic document is electronically sent to a feature provided decentralized location (DO) associated with the delivery area from the central location. A layout is determined by comparing the identified delivery address with a postal route data set. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a central computer unit for distributing mails (2) a computer-readable medium comprising a set of instructions for distributing mails (3) a computer system for distributing mails.
