METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CHARACTER INPUTTING IN MOBILE COMMUNICATION TERMINAL WITH TOUCH SCREEN

A method and a device for inputting characters in a mobile terminal equipped with a touch screen are provided to enable a user to input keys efficiently by displaying a keypad in the touch screen in consideration of a small screen of the mobile terminal. A memory(100) stores characters forming a keypad. A touch screen(110) displays a key area for displaying a selection window and an input area for displaying the character corresponding to input through the selection area, and outputs a signal corresponding to touch input of the key area. The selection window extends and outputs a character string comprising the characters stored in the memory and the character placed on the center of the character string. A controller(130) changes the character of the selection window by moving the character string according to the signal of the touch screen, and outputs the character of the selection window to the input area when the input for selecting the character of the selection window is received. An optical joystick performs the operation corresponding to the touch input by detecting movement of a finger and transferring detected position information to the controller.
