<p>A system and a method for performing handover in a WIMAX mobile communication system are provided to reduce the costs of an overall system without controlling an upper layer due to cell segmentation and changing the structure of a backbone network and an interface. A plurality of mobile terminals(201-1-201-3) communicate with a BS(Base Station)(205) to access a network system according to a request for a call connection and channel conditions. A plurality of distributed antennas(202) are located within a coverage of the BS in which they can communicate with the BS to perform a transmitted digital IF(Intermediate Frequency) signal. The BS includes a plurality of processing stacks(203-1-203-n) each corresponding to the distributed antennas, and transmits location information of each distributed antenna and information of a mobile terminal that perform communication to a network access controller(204). The network access controller recognizes the information of each distributed antenna received from the plurality of processing stacks and instructs an ACR(Access Control Router)(206) or a particular processing stack about handover of the mobile terminals. The ACR transmits the handover instruction to a different network via a backbone(207), and the particular processing stack transmits the handover instruction to the mobile terminals via a distributed antenna connected therewith.</p> |
