A method and a system for providing a third-generation communication service using a short message are provided to allow a user to select and use a suitable call method and a 3G service conveniently according to an incoming call state. A destination terminal(900) performs voice and video call communication and data communication with an origination terminal(100). An HLR(Home Location Register)(500) stores call termination information including whether or not the destination terminal supports a 3G service and whether or not the destination terminal is located with a 3G service coverage. A service server(600) configures a short message including information as to whether or not the destination terminal can receive a video call, call termination information of the destination terminal, and 3G contents information, and transmits the same to the origination terminal. When the short message is received, the origination terminal displays information as to whether the destination terminal can receive a video call, and call termination information, activates and displays a supportable service item among service items including a voice call, a video call and 3G contents, and provides the voice call, the video call, and the 3G contents with the destination terminal according to a user selection of the service item. |
