A method of manufacturing a magnetic recording head is provided to reduce sections of front ends of a main magnetic pole and to enlarge the sections of the front ends of the main magnetic pole for reducing core width and an angle of the front ends of the main magnetic pole, thereby obtaining stable recording efficiency. A magnetic recording head comprises a main magnetic pole(10), a trailing shield(13), a return yoke(14), a recording coil(16), an MR device(20), an upper shield(22), and a lower shield(24). An insulating layer(26) which is made of alumina is installed between the upper shield and the main magnetic pole. The main magnetic pole has front ends(10a), sections of which have small width on the magnetic reproducing head side and large width on the return yoke side.
